Forensic Science is a branch of science which applies the principles of science in investigation of crime by finding those clues which escape normal eye. After analyzing the evidence found on the crime scene, their testimony is presented in the court of law. Forensic Sciences includes essential components such as Forensic Pathology, Psychiatry, Psychology, Forensic Medicine and Odontology (Dentistry). It is chiefly laboratory-based science consisting of related elements of Chemistry, Biology, Toxicology, Ballistics, the Science of Fingerprinting, Questioned Documents and Impressions.
Students can choose between different courses like – forensic physics, forensics chemistry, forensics biology, forensic pathology, forensics medicine, forensic fingerprinting and many more according to their interests. Great observation skills, natural inquisitive nature, talent for analyzing things scientifically and high IQ is required for pursuing a career in forensic sciences.
The basic criterion of eligibility needed to be met for admission to the course is Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalent qualification from a recognized educational board, with Physics, Chemistry and Biology and/ or Math as main subjects and a minimum aggregate score of 55%. However, a few private universities in India conduct their own entrance tests for evaluating and admitting students to the course.
